I LOVE EXPLAINING STUFF 8D Never feel bad about asking. I remember when I first starting reading fics. Terminology can be confusing sometimes.
Here’s a run-down on genres and their meaning:
crack
Ridiculous humor in that nothing makes sense but it’s all hilarious due to it.
fluff
Generally, these stories have little to no real conflict because their main objective is to be cute and happy. These tend to be romance stories that focus on bright moments in a relationship.
angst
This might be the hardest to explain, but it’s also one of the simplest because if you look it up in the dictionary, you get the general definition. These stories make you, well, anxious. They tend to be serious fics with problems that cause dread and issues between the character, and it can be sad. It’s a bit hard to explain though; best you just read a couple and find out?
au/nonau
AU means the story is set in an alternate universe. For example, for super junior, any sort of au is a story in which Super Junior does not exist. It can be a simple high school fic, or a fantasy one set in a magical world.
That being said, NonAU means it’s set in the existing world that the characters are known in. So for EunHae or KyuMin fics, the fic would involve super junior and what they do as a group in real life.
Should I explain all the genres…? I’ll explain the ones that aren’t very obvious, but some such as romance, action, supernatural, humor, and so on won’t be ^^
slice of life
It’s not a genre on our blog, but these tend to explore very realistic ideas, and tend to be a bit angsty for that reason. For example, real life problems that could happen for eunhae are discrimination because gay people in South Korea are not exactly smiled upon to say the least.
Those are the only ones I feel that might be confusing, but if there are any more, feel free to ask :) Hope this helps!
